Sprinkler Systems help reduce Spokane’s water usage!

Did you know that Spokane’s water usage skyrockets 300% during the summer months? If you have ever considered getting a new automated sprinkler system installed, now is the time! With Spokane’s summer temperatures rising and water bills increasing, this kind of investment has a lot of long term benefits!

Not to mention the City of Spokane recently passed a new ordinance to restrict watering during summer months. If you haven’t heard the news, starting June 2024, the city of Spokane will prohibit watering between 10 a.m. – 6 p.m, no more than 4 days within a week and no more than a total of 2 hours of watering per day during. This will be in effect every June 1st-October 1st to try and conserve our communities most valuable asset, water!

Benefits of an automated sprinkler systems:

  1. Scheduling your sprinkler system: You can program your system to go on during the early mornings when temperatures are at their coolest. For example, programming your automated system to go on at 4 a.m. will help reduce the amount of water needed, the amount of watering time, and the amount of water evaporated. This kind of scheduling will provide your lawn and plants the appropriate amount of water and time to absorb the moisture before the temperatures rise throughout the day.

  2. Less manual labor and monitoring: If you are watering your own lawn and plants and moving your sprinklers manually, you may be waisting your time, money and water. Unless you are setting timers and moving your hoses exactly when they need to be, a garden hose left unattended can waste as much as 600 gallons of water in just one hour! Lawns also only need watering every 3 to 5 days in the summer and watering more than 1 inch per week means you're just unnecessarily watering the ground below.

  3. Proper water usage: The amount of water needed for grass is very different than the amount of water needed for native Spokane plants. If you are just setting your watering hoses out to spray everything in your yard you may be overwatering or even under watering certain areas/ plants. This is why a planned out sprinkler and drip line system is so helpful because you can preprogram different zones to use different amounts of water for different amounts of time ensuring that every area of your yard is getting exactly what it needs to thrive!
